Commitment to Collective Recovery: PT Vale Opens Public Complaint Channels, Strengthens Collaboration through #TogetherForTowuti

Towuti, August 26, 2025 — From the very first day of the oil pipeline leak incident in Lioka Village, Towuti District, on August 23, 2025, PT Vale Indonesia Tbk (PT Vale) immediately mobilized its emergency response team to work around the clock, aiming to minimize the impact on both the community and the environment.

By the third day, the leak point had been successfully identified and sealed. On the fourth day, efforts continued to focus on controlling the spread of oil. Technical personnel were deployed in rotating 24-hour shifts to accelerate the recovery process.

Transparency and Accountability

As part of its commitment to openness, PT Vale has established a Public Information and Complaint Post at the Towuti Sub-district Office, operating daily from 07:00 to 18:00 WITA. This post serves as an official channel for affected residents to submit complaints, feedback, and additional information.

Since its opening on August 25, the post has received several formal reports, both online and offline. Among them was a report concerning equipment mobilization that led to the pipeline leak. PT Vale’s field team promptly conducted assessments and took swift follow-up actions to ensure public safety.

In addition, PT Vale has set up a Medical Post in Lioka Village, near the leak site. Staffed by rotating medical personnel 24 hours a day, the post is a proactive measure to address potential health risks. To date, no health issues have been reported by residents, but the service remains available to ensure the community feels safe and protected.

Musafir Laeda, Head of Baruga Village, called for unity and cooperation among all parties. “Let’s help each other and work together. Even if communication was lacking at first due to panic, we now have a reporting center that connects everyone,” he said during a community meeting at the Towuti Sub-district Office.

Endra Kusuma, Head of External Relations at PT Vale Indonesia Tbk, expressed appreciation to all parties involved in the incident response. “We are grateful for the support from the government, community, and all stakeholders. Our team in the field has been working tirelessly, day and night, because we believe recovery can only be achieved through unity. With prayers, cooperation, and the spirit of #TogetherForTowuti, we hope to emerge stronger from this challenge,” he said.

He added that the company is currently coordinating with the East Luwu Regency Government to identify and assess community lands affected by the incident.

“We ask for your continued support as we navigate this crisis. This incident has further strengthened our commitment to crisis mitigation and accelerated response in affected areas,” Endra concluded.

Let us recover together, support one another, and preserve the beauty and resilience of Towuti.
