The Círio in Every Sense
The Círio de Nazaré is one of the most significant cultural manifestations in the state of Pará, bringing together millions of devotees in a procession marked by faith, tradition, and emotion. With over 200 editions, this event transforms the city of Belém into the beating heart of Brazilian spirituality. The city’s rhythm changes: daily life is interwoven with processions, pilgrimages, cultural performances, and family gatherings. Scents, sounds, and flavors take on new meanings.

A Culture That Is Lived, Not Explained. Vale has been present in the Amazon for 40 years and, for the past 23, has supported and experienced the emotions of the Círio alongside the people of Pará.

A Celebration That Awakens the Senses

During the Círio, the senses are heightened:

  • The sound of prayers and the pulling of the rope by the faithful echoes through the streets.

  • The touch of colorful ribbons and straw hats during the procession stirs deep emotions.

  • The aroma of maniçoba and tucupi fills the neighborhoods, signaling that the celebration is alive.

Flavors That Tell Stories

Pará’s cuisine takes center stage during the Círio. These traditional dishes are more than food—they are symbols of faith and heritage:

  • Maniçoba: Made from the leaves of wild manioc, cooked for seven days and mixed with various meats, served with white rice. It is the most iconic dish of the Círio.

  • Duck (or chicken) in tucupi: Cooked with jambu and chicory, and immersed in tucupi—a yellow broth extracted from manioc.

  • Pará-style rice: Prepared with shrimp, jambu, and tucupi, offering a burst of Amazonian flavors.

  • Desserts with cupuaçu or bacuri: Such as chilled cream or the Maria Isabel tart, which sweeten family gatherings.

These flavors are passed down through generations, with each recipe carrying emotional and spiritual memories.

Vale at the Círio de Nazaré

In this centuries-old tradition, Vale will be present at several key moments that will make this celebration even more special. Let’s explore some of them:

In the background, the Vale logo and the phrase “O Círio é cultura que não se explica, se vive” are visible, also repeated on the front of the stage. The sky is blue with a few clouds, creating a festive and cultural atmosphere.

From October 9 to 12, Vale, in partnership with Pará 2000, will offer a free musical program to the public at Estação das Docas. The lineup will feature performances by regional artists and talents from the Vale Música Belém project.

Visitors to this iconic tourist destination in Belém will also have the opportunity to personalize the traditional Círio ribbons at a dedicated Vale booth.

Vale Música and the Círio

We will also be present at the Círio Fluvial, one of the most anticipated processions held on the waters of the Guajará Bay.

Upon the arrival of the Círio at Estação das Docas on Saturday (October 11) at 9:00 AM, the Vale Música program will deliver a performance that celebrates the richness and beauty of Amazonian culture along the riverfront.

The artwork represents the Círio de Nazaré, a traditional religious festival in Brazil. The central figure is a woman holding a child, symbolizing maternal love and protection. Surrounding them are various elements associated with the festival: colorful ribbons, fireworks, and images of the Basilica of Our Lady of Nazareth. There is also a depiction of an angelic figure and a boy holding an offering plate. The word "VIVA" is repeated three times at the bottom, celebrating life and faith.

On October 4, a new cultural and scientific space will be inaugurated, placing the Amazon at the center of global discussions. The event will bring together authorities and communities in a historic moment.
Featuring works by 74 artists and collectives from eight Pan-Amazonian and Caribbean countries, the exhibition spans 8,000 square meters at the Biennial Cultural Center of the Amazons (CCBA). Open until November 30, with free admission.
The museum has selected 19 artists to revitalize the walls of the Zoobotanical Park and buildings of the Emílio Goeldi Museum, a historical landmark of the city. The murals, inspired by Goeldi’s research and the region’s fauna and flora, mark a unique moment for urban art in the Amazon.
Underway since December 2024, the restoration of the Church and former Convent of Our Lady of Mercy represents one of the most significant investments in preserving the historical and symbolic heritage of the Amazon.
