Our dams and Tailings Storage Facilities (TSFs)
Currently, Vale owns 115 dams. Of these dams, some are primarily designed to contain tailings, known as tailings storage facilities or TSFs. Also, other such structures can serve to contain sediment or water. For tailings storage facilities (TSFs), we implemented the Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management (GISTM).

Emergency Level
The emergency level is a technical convention used in Brazil, established by ANM Resolution 95/2002, which indicates the severity of anomalies or risks in a dam.
In 2019, we conducted an in-depth investigation of the conditions of our structures, which resulted, in 2020, in the identification of 35 dams classified at some level of emergency according to the criteria resolution. process to de-characterization all our upstream dams located in Brazil. This action was the result of dedicated professional, regulatory bodies, independent professionals and technical partners.
Since then, we have made significant progress in risk management. Currently, 11 dams remain classified at some level of emergency. By 2025, we will have met our goal of having no structures ate level 3 – the most critical level.
We remain steadfast in our commitment to ongoing risk mitigation for the structures.
Dam still classified as a emergency levels are constantly monitored and undergo specific interventions aimed at improving safety conditions.
Among these actions, detailed geotechnical investigations stand out and, when necessary, structural reinforcement works or de-characterization processes.
