Spirit of Solidarity: 60 Residents Join Recovery Efforts, 52 Public Complaints Addressed Transparently

Towuti, August 27, 2025 — Five days after the oil pipeline leak incident in Lioka Village, Towuti District, the spirit of community solidarity has become a driving force in the recovery process. Not only technical teams and government officials, but also local residents have voluntarily stepped forward, requesting to be involved in the cleanup and restoration efforts.

Approximately 60 community members, coordinated through the Village Head, took the initiative to help clean the affected area. Their presence underscores that recovery is not solely the responsibility of the company, but a collective movement for public safety and environmental preservation.

In addition to community involvement, PT Vale Indonesia Tbk (PT Vale) has reinforced its commitment to transparency by operating a Public Complaints & Information Post at the Towuti Sub-district Office (07:00–18:00 WITA) and a 24-hour hotline. As of August 27, 2025, a total of 52 public complaints have been received: 17 have been resolved, 20 are currently being processed, and 15 are under verification.

Elieser Sula, a resident of Lioka Village, shared that he visited the Complaints and Information Post after attending a public outreach session led by the Village Head. He expressed confidence that his concerns would be heard and addressed by PT Vale. “I believe PT Vale will provide the best solution to my concerns,” he said optimistically on Wednesday, August 27, 2025.

To strengthen the recovery efforts, PT Vale, in collaboration with the Luwu Timur Regency Government and relevant stakeholders, has established an Environmental and Social Impact Monitoring and Assessment Team. This team is tasked with mapping the impacts, conducting field assessments, and ensuring that all follow-up actions are accountable and measurable.

Budiawansyah, Director and Chief Sustainability & Corporate Affairs Officer of PT Vale, reaffirmed the company’s commitment. “Public safety and environmental sustainability are non-negotiable priorities. We are committed to handling this incident transparently and responsibly, with measured actions and collaboration across all parties,” he stated.

Endra Kusuma, Head of External Relations at PT Vale, expressed appreciation for the community’s enthusiasm. “Seeing residents voluntarily come forward to participate in the recovery efforts is truly inspiring. We believe that recovery can only be achieved through unity. We hope this spirit accelerates a comprehensive recovery and restores a sense of security for the community,” he said.

With synergy between the government, community, and company, PT Vale is confident that the recovery process will proceed swiftly, transparently, and effectively restore peace of mind for local residents.
