Commitment in Ensuring Adequate Working Conditions

At PT Vale Indonesia Tbk, our employees are the very heartbeat of our operations. Health and Safety

Protecting biodiversity is closely related to sustainability commitments. We have also included initiatives related to biodiversity in PT Vale's Environment, Health, Safety and Sustainability (EHSS) Policy, as well as specific policies on every environmental aspect. The initiatives we carry out are also in line with the material topics of reporting and the Principles of Sustainable Mining Management Based on the Sustainable Development Framework from the International Council on Mining and Metals (ICMM), which are aligned with the Five Environmental Management Commitments for 2022.

The five environmental commitments that become our focus, namely,

  • Low carbon agenda,
    • 100% medical coverage

    Employees and their families can access healthcare services, including check-ups, tests, expert consultations, and specialized care, from paramedics to specialists at INCO Sorowako Hospital/Clinic, referral hospitals/clinics, and our partner facilities, including mental health services provided by psychologists and psychiatrists at INCO Sorowako Hospital/Clinic.

    • Periodic Health Checks

    Workers undergo regular health checks, scheduled every two years or as recommended by the Company's Occupational Health Doctor. At certain work locations, health checks are carried out every year, the costs of which are fully borne by the Company.

    • Sport Facilities

    PT Vale Indonesia Tbk provides sports facilities including a golf course, tennis court, futsal court, badminton court, basketball court, volleyball court, jogging track and gym for use by employees and residents. This encourages a healthy and active lifestyle among employees and improves well-being.

    • Designing Heavy Equipment with Ergonomic Chairs

    This design ensures that heavy equipment operators, especially female drivers, can work comfortably and maintain good health. All area: process plant, etc.

     

    Mom-Friendly Workplace

    • Reducing the burden of landfills 
    • Reducing the intensity of water consumption,
    • Maternity Leave

  • Reclamation of post-mining land and land rehabilitation outside the Contract of Work, as well as
  • Female workers are entitled to a 4-month maternity leave, consisting of 1.5 months before giving birth, based on the doctor's recommended estimated delivery date, and 2.5 months after giving birth. In certain conditions, the leave duration can be extended beyond 4 months, following the treating doctor's recommendation.

    • Biodiversity conservation.Lactation Room

    We offer a dedicated lactation room for breastfeeding mothers, ensuring that they can continue to nourish their children while working.

     

    Comfortable Workplace

    • Open-Plan Workspace

    In our offices, we have started to develop open-plan workspaces instead of traditional cubicle-style ones. Open-plan workspaces enhance collaboration between employee members, improving communication by removing barriers between different levels and job functions. Furthermore, we have made sure employee's tables and chairs are ergonomic and does not strain 

    • Male and female employee toilets

    We provide toilets for male employees and female employees in our offices, including at our mining sites in the field.

    • Process Plant Satellite Canteen

    Establishing a satellite canteen in the processing factory area overcomes the problem of long distances that processing factory employees have to travel for lunch, all while extending the availability of communal dining options.

     

    Employee Well-being

    • Residence

    Workers are provided with various housing options, including fully-furnished employee housing and dormitories.

    • Housing Allowance

    We provide a housing allowance for those who qualify for employee housing but choose not to occupy it. Apart from that, we also provide living allowances for other employees.

    • Free Flights

    Senior level employees and their insured families are entitled to receive free flights from Sorowako to Makasar.

    • Saving Plan

    Provides life insurance benefits for Employees managed by an insurance body and/or other financial institution mutually agreed upon by the Employer and the Workers' Union/Labor Union in the pension committee, whose policy is held by the Company.

    • Retirement Program

    A Retirement Preparation Period (MPP) of 5 (five) months will be given before the normal retirement age (55 years) with payment of full wages, and will be employed for 3 (three) months within the MPP period in accordance with the agreement with the Worker. The company will pay wages to workers 2 x in the first 3 (three) months.

In 2022, PT Vale Indonesia Tbk recorded an outstanding employee turnover rate of only 0.78%. This remarkable achievement is a testament to our unwavering commitment to retaining our valuable employees, ensuring their high levels of satisfaction, and fostering a positive work environment.   • SDG 8 Promote Sustained, Inclusive and Sustainable Economic Growth, Full and Productive Employment and Decent Work for All

    • 8.5 By 2030, achieve full and productive employment and decent work for all women and men, including for young people and persons with disabilities, and equal pay for work of equal value.

    • 8.8 Protect labor rights and promote safe and secure working environments of all workers, including migrant workers, particularly women migrants, and those in precarious employment

  • Principle 3.5 Equitably remunerate employees with wages that equal or exceed legal requirements or represent a competitive wage within that job market (whichever is higher) and assign regular and overtime working hours within legally required limits. 

  • Principe 5.1 Implement practices aimed at continually improving workplace physical and psychological health and safety, and monitor performance for the elimination of workplace fatalities, serious injuries, psychosocial hazards and prevention of occupational diseases, based upon a recognised international standard or management system.
