Vale in Malaysia
In Malaysia, Vale operates the Teluk Rubiah Maritime Terminal (TRMT). The terminal, in Perak, Malaysia, is a strategic logistics and distribution hub that connects Vale’s iron ore operations in Brazil to customers across Asia.
Operational since 2014, the USD 1.4 billion facility remains the single largest foreign direct investment (FDI) in the state of Perak. The terminal serves as an important gateway supporting more efficient, reliable and flexible iron ore supply across the Asia-Pacific region, contributing to lower transportation-related greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions through more efficient shipping and regional distribution capabilities.
Where are we?
Vale’s operational presence in Malaysia is centred at the Teluk Rubiah Maritime Terminal (TRMT), located in Manjung, Perak, along the Strait of Malacca.
In addition to operations in Perak, Vale maintains a corporate presence in Kuala Lumpur through Vale International S.A. Malaysia (VIMB), which supports regional functions including corporate management, commercial coordination, finance and enabling services across the Asia-Pacific region.

What does Vale do in Malaysia?
Vale Malaysia operates one of the company’s key iron ore distribution and logistics hubs serving Asia. At TRMT, iron ore shipped from Brazil is received, stored, blended and redistributed to customers across the region.
The terminal is equipped with a deep-water berth capable of receiving Valemax vessels, among the world’s largest and most efficient bulk carriers. By leveraging larger vessel capacity and regional distribution, Vale improves logistics efficiency and supports lower transportation-related emissions.
Together, these capabilities strengthen supply reliability, operational efficiency and customer responsiveness, supporting Vale’s broader ambition to improve life and transform the future through more sustainable mining and logistics solutions.

Key initiatives include urban rejuvenation efforts in Beruas and Manjung Lama to strengthen local identity and liveability, as well as the Teluk Rubiah Scholarship Programme (TRSP), which develops high-potential local talent and expands access to quality education opportunities.
To date, Vale has invested more than USD 18 million (approximately MYR 80 million) in Malaysia across community development, education and biodiversity initiatives. As part of its environmental stewardship commitments, Vale has dedicated approximately 60% of its operational land footprint in Teluk Rubiah as a protected green area and conservation buffer, supporting the preservation of local ecosystems and biodiversity in the surrounding coastal environment.
The Vale Eco Centre (VEC) serves as Vale’s flagship environmental education and conservation space in Malaysia. Since opening its doors, the centre has welcomed more than 20,000 visitors, supporting awareness, education and appreciation of local biodiversity. Future enhancement plans aim to further strengthen VEC’s position as a destination for environmental learning and sustainable ecotourism in Perak.
